Students with a disability

Oonoonba State School offers an inclusive education for all students.  We have a Special Education Program which provides additional support to students with disabilities.  This support can take many forms and includes assisting class teachers with program adjustments, preparation of personalised resources, as well as small group work with a special education teacher or teacher aide. For a very small number of students, intensive individualised programs are developed and supported by the class teacher and special education staff.

Every student has an individualised learning plan which includes goals for individual achievement.  A commitment is made to work on these goals and objectives throughout the day by all staff.

Our focus is on a team approach with Special Education teachers and aides, class teachers, medical and allied health professionals working together to meet individual needs in an inclusive environment. Communication with parents is an integral part of this process.

At our school we believe that students benefit academically and socially by having opportunities to build relationships with their peers. We support the development of mutually beneficial relationships between all students and maintain the Code of Conduct – 6 C’s.

Our school is coded for Physical Impairment (PI) and Visual Impairment (VI). This means that students with these disabilities from outside our catchment area may enrol at our school. Students with other disabilities – Hearing Impairment (HI), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Impairment (II) or Speech Language Impairment (SLI) will apply for enrolment in accordance with the school’s Enrolment Management Plan.
