Prep is now compulsory in Queensland. It is a full-time program which provides the foundation of your child's success at school.
Oonoonba is an enrolment managed school. We also provide an inclusive education for all children.
To be eligible to attend prep children must be aged 5 years by 30 June in the year they start prep. Proof of age must be presented on enrolment.
Our expectation is that Prep students are dropped off to the classroom by an adult at 8.30am each day and collected by 2.50pm for at least the first term. Parents and carers may stay with their child/ren until commencement of the school day at 8.45am. At this time parents are requested to leave to enable students to commence their learning under instruction of their teacher.
Prep students engage in the Australian Curriculum. Students follow the same timetable as the rest of the school.
For the most of the year Prep students play within the Prep area however, during the later stages of term 4 they have opportunities to transition to the year 1 area.
To determine when your child can commence their prep year, use the prep ready reckoner calculator.

Early Entry to Prep Year
Who is eligible for early entry to Prep in
Queensland?
A child whose
birthday falls in the month of July, and children who have previously enrolled
at school in another state or country, may be able to commence Prep early if
they are assessed by the school principal as being ready for school.
The principal’s decision will be based
on your child’s attributes including ability, aptitude, social and emotional
competence, physical development, and level of knowledge and understanding.
A July birthday or previous school
enrolment in another state or country does not guarantee early entry to Prep in
Queensland.
