Welcome to Oonoonba State School

Oonoonba State School was first opened in 1920 and is steeped in history.  In 2002 a new school was built on its current site in the middle of a newly developing estate called Fairfield Waters. The school on its new site opened with 156 students and currently has an enrolment of 520 students from Prep to Year 6. We are an Independent Public School which is enrolment managed.
In 2019 the school and the community were affected by the devastating flood event and the school was fully refurbished in Term 1 while students were relocated to two neighbouring schools.
Oonoonba State School operated as a "school within a school" at the two locations.  We are very grateful to Wulguru and William Ross State High School for their hospitality and for welcoming us into their schools. We were humbled by the extensive support we received from across Townsville, Queensland and interstate by other schools, businesses and community organisations.  We have built a strong relationship especially with the Tzu Chi Charity foundation.
A strong relationship exists with our local cluster of state primary and secondary schools, as well as
neighbouring C&K and Day Care Centres, local businesses and agencies. Our students are engaged in valuable transition activities for Prep and Secondary school. All students are supported to succeed in our school through quality teaching and learning and differentiation for students requiring adjustments.
Our motto is 'Seek knowledge and Truth' which aligns with the valuable opportunities we provide for students to achieve in academic, social and emotional, cultural and sporting pursuits.  Our Positive Behaviour for Learning Expectations of Safe, Respectful, Resilient and Successful, provide a strong platform for a safe learning environment.
The Oonoonba State School community works together to ensure a great school. We are very proud of our school.
Welcome to our school. I am glad you have chosen to join us in our quest to provide the best education for your child.
