If there are circumstances in your household that interrupt your childs’ normal school attendance you can access the learning resources in the curriculum tab provided on Department of Education website for your child to complete at home.

If your child is ill or there are temporary school closures your children’s school will provide advice regarding how learning can be completed at home.

Your school will contact you using their normal communication methods such as the school website, newsletters, emails or other digital tools, which will be updated regularly.

If schools temporarily close, teachers may move some or all of your children’s learning online. Most Queensland state school students already have experience in working online using tools such as email, OneDrive, Class Notebook, or the The Learning Place which has tools like Virtual Classrooms, Web Conferencing and edStudios.

Where digital or online options are not available, schools may provide hard copies of resources for students to take home. Resources are able to be printed by schools for students to take home. This will allow students who have limited connectivity or who may not have a suitable device, to continue their learning.

The health and wellbeing of all children and students is our priority and we are committed to ensuring that their learning continues during emergencies such as the current Coronavirus pandemic.

  • The following links are provided to access general information about learning@home and resources.

learning@home refers to the ways schools will maintain teaching and learning in the event of a prolonged school closure or student absence.

The Department of Education has a number of online tools and resources to support students.

Curriculum resources for Mathematics and English are available for students to complete at their own pace. Students in Prep to Year 3 may require support to read and understand instructions.

The resources provided here are a sample of activities that can be printed and are designed as a support tool for students to continue their learning and engage in familiar activities essential to their learning and wellbeing.

Additional online resources are available through the Learning Place website using student’s log in. This is the same logon and password that students use to log onto the computers or iPads at school. If your child/children are unsure of their logon and password, please contact their class teacher.

Advice from Oonoonba State School: Getting prepared at home

Internet

Students can access online learning environment that requires access to the internet. This will increase your data usage. It may be beneficial to check with your internet provider as many are currently offering additional data packages.

Printers

It is possible to complete some worksheets and activities digitally, however if you need to print some of these, you will need to access a printer.  Consider checking your ink cartridges and paper supply.

Stationery

We will be actively encouraging a balance of screen work and paper based activities. Students will need access to paper, pencils, erasers, rulers, sharpeners, scissors, glue etc. to do their work. In the event of school closure, students will bring home their pencil cases but additional supplies may be helpful during this time.

Learning from Home TIPS

Routines – Children perform at their best if you are able to maintain as close to normal school routine as possible. Some suggestions include:

  • Break times should include physical activities and some fresh air
  • If you have more than one student at home, timetabling access to online learning may be necessary
  • Maintain the same bedtime routines as a normal school week

If your household does not have access to online learning, please advise the school or your child/children’s teacher as soon as possible. Alternative arrangements will be made for their continuation of learning.
